During 2012 and 2013, the school became embroiled in conflict between students and faculty and the campus administration. On August 29, 2012, the PCC Board unilaterally cancelled the subsequent six week winter session. One student was arrested at this board meeting. Organized by a newly formed group called Coalition of Students and Faculty for Student Achievement, a rally during the first week back of the illegitimate new Spring semester kicked off a steady wave of student and faculty activism. Eventually, course sections were cut, student transfers to four year institutions were delayed, overall full time student enrollments were reduced, and Proposition 30 monies allotted to the school were jeopardized. According to the California Community Colleges Chancellor’s Office, 2012 2013 had the lowest full time enrollments in 17 years @ 20,219; Spring 2013 had the lowest full time enrollments in 10 years @ 9838 students. The Faculty Association filed an unfair labor practice on the District for canceling winter abruptly and won in November 201 The district filed an appeal to the ruling, thus prolonging the orders to rescind the trimester calendar and return to the status quo while ratcheting up annual 7% compensation to affected employees.

According to Consumers’ Checkbook magazine, PCC’s prices for the limited number of comparable items available were higher than the big chain average. However, the quality of PCC’s fresh produce and meat received very high scores. The prices of organic food at PCC were about the same as the average prices at other stores in the Puget Sound area.

PCC is used as an oxidant. In particular, it has proven to be highly effective in oxidizing primary and secondary alcohols to aldehydes and ketones, respectively. Rarely does over oxidation occur (whether intentionally or accidentally) to form carboxylic acids, unlike the related Jones reagent. A typical PCC oxidation involves addition of the alcohol to a suspension of PCC in dichloromethane. A sample reaction would be:

PCC is a new generation of “programmable calculator control”, is designed for applications in industrial environments designed for digital operation of electronic systems, a “user oriented refers to this” so convenient programming; it directly by application in industrial environments, with stronger anti interference capability, higher reliability, adaptability and broad scope of application; large capacity storage capacity, standard communication interface, process based system interconnect bus, high level language development and runtime environment, self diagnostic capabilities that have made for the PCC Transformer substation Automation provides the excellent and friendly “platform.”

The company manufactures a variety of parts for the aerospace industry including many jet engine components. PCC also makes medical prostheses and parts for other industrial applications such as in the oil industry, the gas industry, and for use in power generating turbines for producing electricity. They are considered a leader in the manufacturing of both jet engine airfoils and gas turbines used for generating electricity. The company generates $5 million in revenue for each Boeing 787 Dreamliner built. Other products made from the various metals are fasteners, products for the paper industry, parts used in the defense industry, and parts for the automotive industry. PCC’s main markets are the United States, Europe, and Asia.

In addition to intercollegiate athletics, PCC students are also afforded the opportunity to play intramural sports through their Collegians. Sports offered through collegians include soccer, basketball, softball, volleyball, and broom hockey among others. Every fall Collegian Soccer culminates with the winners of the playoffs facing each other in the annual Turkey Bowl held over the Thanksgiving weekend. Also in the spring students can play softball and basketball.

The posterior cingulate cortex has been linked by lesion studies to spatial memory, configural learning, and maintenance of discriminative avoidance learning. More recently the PCC was shown to display intense activity when autobiographical memories (such as those concerning friends and family) are recalled successfully. In a study involving autobiographical recollection, the caudal part of the left posterior cingulate cortex was the only brain structure highly active in all subjects. Furthermore, the PCC but does not show this same activation during attempted but unsuccessful retrieval, implying an important role in successful memory retrieval (see below: Alzheimer’s Disease).

We met up, my friends from PCC Peter Stephens, John Way, Ken Nichols and myself and left Pasadena about 8 p.m. Friday evening in Peter’s old paneled truck. Eventually Mojave with its infamous Whites Restaurant appeared and we stopped for dinner. About 11:30 p.m. we arrived at Whitney Portal, put our old sleeping bags on the ground making a makeshift campground out of a little space next to the truck, and tried to get some shuteye.
